The ultimate comfort food, Dal Dhokli is a sweet, spicy, and tangy lentil stew with freshly made whole wheat noodles cooked in the lentils. A hearty one-pot meal from the Indian States of Gujarat and Maharashtra, where it is also called Chakolya or Varan Phal.
Dal dhokli recipe is a traditional Gujarati one-pot meal recipe made with toor dal and wheat dough. It is a one-pot meal that is served and does not need any rice or flatbread with it as it does contain both.
This finger-licking delicious and wholesome recipe has complex flavors from tamarind and jaggery, soft melt in the mouth textures from the homemade wheat noodles, and nutty flavors from mustard seeds, cumin seeds, and peanuts.
While dhokli is made from whole wheat flour aka chatpati atta. The dough is made from atta with a few spices. Then rolled into thin circle and cut into diamond shapes. Then added into simmering dal and cooked till it is soft and not raw anymore.
Dal dhokli recipe tastes delicious when served in a wide mouth soup bowl, drizzled with a teaspoon of ghee, and sprinkled with finely chopped onions. The Dal Dhokli makes a perfect one-dish meal along with Kachumber Salad for dinners or a lazy Sunday afternoon lunch.

How to make Dal Dhokli Recipe | Traditional Gujarati Recipes recipe with step by step photos:
1. Take a big bowl. Add 1 bowl of wheat flour and salt as per taste.
2. Add 1 tbsp red chili powder and 1 tbsp turmeric powder.
3. Add ½ tbsp black salt and 2 tbsp oil. Mix it well.
4. Add water if needed and make dough of it. After that keep aside a dough and make rest it for 20 minutes.
5. Take a pan. Add 3 tbsp oil, 1 tbsp mustard seeds and 1 tbsp cumin seeds.
6. Add 1 tbsp turmeric powder and 2 dry chili
7. Add 3 bay leaves, 1 star anise, 4-5 cloves, and 5-6 curry leaves.
8. Add 1 ½ tbsp grated ginger, 2 tbsp chopped green chilies, and 1 chopped tomato.
9. Add 1 ½ bowl boiled toor dal.
10. Add 1 cup boiled peanuts.
11. Take a dough and knead it. Take small portion and roll it like roti.
12. Cut it into diamond shape.Add into dal mixture.
13. Add 1 bowl water. Add salt as per taste and 2 green spicy chilies. Simmer 15-20 minutes.
14. Add 1 garam masala and 1 Kasuri methi. Mix it well. Simmer for 20 minutes.
15. Add 2 tbsp lemon juice.
16. Ready to serve with decorate of cashew nuts and chopped onions.
