Carrot Halwa is the best sweet dish. This delicious Indian dessert is often made during the Diwali and Holi celebrations. It is ultimate comfort food – soothing, rich and delightful.
My Carrot Halwa recipe with a detailed step-by-step guide and video shares the traditional way of making a delicious gajar ka halwa without any shortcuts or tweaks.
Halwa recipes are one of the popular choices from Indian cuisine is made with myriad ingredients. This is one of the easy and tasty dessert recipes which can be prepared and attempted by any enthusiastic cook.
This traditional carrot halwa recipe is made with only whole or full-fat milk, ghee and sugar. You don’t need khoya (evaporated milk solids) or condensed milk.
I make carrot halwa with orange carrots. You can use any carrots – red, orange or black. But just make sure they are not fibrous, stringy and hard. The red carrots are so much sweeter, have a flavor of their own and that’s what makes them perfect for the halwa.

Ingredients
- 11.2 Kg Carrot
- 4 Tbsp Ghee
- 3 Cup Milk
- 1 Cup Sugar
- 2 Tbsp Milk Malai
- 1.2 Tbsp Cardamom Powder

How to make Carrot Halwa / Gajar Halwa | How To Make Carrot Halwa recipe:
- Take 1 and half kilogram carrot and peel off them.
- Grate all carrots with big whole shredder. Be careful when you grate the carrot with shredder.
- Carrot are cut in long strip shape from shredder.
- Take pan and put 4 tbsp. ghee in it.
- Put grated carrot in the pan and stir them on medium flame. Continuously stir carrot as well.
- Cover them with pan cover lid for 10 minute to make soft carrot.
- After that add 3 cup milk in the pan.
- Add 1 cup sugar in the pan. Mix it well to mix all ingredients with carrot.
- Cover with lid for to make soft creamy mixture.
- After that add 2 tbsp. homemade milk malai in carrot mixture. Stir them well.
- Furthermore, add some almond slice in the halwa. Mix it and stir well.
- Add ½ tbsp. cardamom powder in the halwa for rich taste. Mix it well them.
- Ready the carrot halwa or gajar halwa, enjoy!!
Notes
- Use fresh, juicy and tender carrots.
- The recipe can be halved or doubled or tripled.
- The halwa stays good in the fridge for almost about 10 to 12 days.
- Use full-fat milk or whole milk.
- Add nuts and dry fruits of your choice.
